French Door Installation Medway
Looking for a simple, attractive way to open your home onto the garden? I'm Tim from TS Glazing, and with more than 25 years' experience in the glazing trade, I install French doors for homeowners throughout Medway.
From replacing old sliding patio doors to altering an existing opening for a new set of French doors, I'll look at what's required and talk you through the options without the hard sell.
French Doors For Gardens, Patios & Living Spaces
French doors are a practical way of creating a bright, attractive opening between your home and the garden. They're particularly popular for kitchens, dining rooms, living areas and extensions.
With both doors open, you can create generous access to your patio or garden. When they're closed, the large glazed sections still allow plenty of natural light into the room and provide a clear view outside.
They can also be a great replacement for an older sliding patio door, as you can see from the genuine TS Glazing project further down this page.
If you're looking for an even wider opening, take a look at our bifold doors in Medway. For replacement windows alongside your doors, we also provide double glazing installation across Medway.

What Can New French Doors Add To Your Home?
French doors remain a popular choice because they combine plenty of glazing with a simple and practical way to connect your living space with the garden.
More Natural Light
Large glazed sections can bring more daylight into your kitchen, dining room or living space.
Garden Access
Open both doors when you want a generous route between your home, patio and garden.
Classic Appearance
The symmetrical two-door design works well with traditional and more modern properties.
Everyday Practicality
Use the main door for everyday access and open both when you want the full width available.
From Old Sliding Patio Door To New French Doors
This recent job shows why replacing an existing door isn't always simply a case of taking one frame out and putting another one in. Sometimes the opening itself needs altering so the new doors can be installed correctly.
On this project we removed the old sliding patio door, altered the brickwork to create the correct opening and then installed the customer's new French doors.

Removing The Old Sliding Patio Door
We started by removing the customer's existing sliding patio door and frame.
Once the old installation was out, we could work directly with the existing opening and prepare it for the new French doors.

Resizing The Brickwork For The New Doors
The existing opening needed altering to suit the new French door installation, so the brickwork was carefully resized and prepared.
This is an important part of jobs like this. Getting the opening right gives us the correct base from which to fit, level and secure the new door frame.

Installing The New French Doors
With the opening prepared, the new French doors could be installed, positioned and checked for correct operation.
The finished installation gives the homeowner a completely different style of access to the outside space, replacing the old sliding patio door with a smart pair of glazed French doors.
More Than Simply Fitting A New Door
The project above is a good example of why experience matters. Replacement door installations don't always involve putting a new door straight into an existing opening.
We first need to understand what is already there, what needs removing and whether the opening needs any preparation or alteration before the replacement can be installed.
With TS Glazing, I'm the person carrying out that practical side of the work. Sam looks after the office and customer communication, while I concentrate on making sure the installation itself is completed properly.

French Doors Or Bifold Doors?
Both can create a great connection between your home and garden, but they operate differently. The right option will depend on the opening, the property and what you want from the finished space.
A Classic Two-Door Opening
French doors can be ideal if you want a straightforward pair of glazed doors that provide everyday access and can both be opened when you want more space.
- Two hinged door leaves
- Simple everyday access
- Open both doors when required
- Suitable for many property styles
- Plenty of glazing and natural light
For A Wider Opening
Bifold doors use several glazed panels that fold and slide together, making them particularly useful where the aim is to create a much wider opening.
- Multiple folding panels
- Suitable for wider openings
- Strong connection to the garden
- Popular for extensions
- Contemporary appearance

Does Your Existing Door Actually Need Replacing?
If you're thinking about new French or patio doors simply because your existing doors have stopped working properly, it may be worth checking whether they can be repaired first.
As well as installations, we carry out double glazing and door repairs across Medway. That means we're able to look at the fault rather than automatically assuming the complete door needs replacing.
Depending on what's wrong, issues involving handles, locks, hinges, alignment, seals or the glass unit itself may be repairable.
