Replacement Window Boards For A Cleaner, Smarter Finish
Hi, I'm Tim from TS Glazing. Window boards are one of those parts of a window installation that people don't always think about until they become damaged, badly marked or simply start to look tired.
The window board is the internal sill that runs along the bottom of your window. In bay windows, it can continue around several angles and joins, making accurate cutting and finishing especially important.
At TS Glazing, we provide professional window board replacement across Medway, replacing old or poorly finished boards with clean, durable uPVC alternatives.
Because I have over 25 years of hands-on experience installing and repairing double glazing , I understand how the window, frame, reveals and internal finishing all work together. That means you're getting a specialist glazing finish rather than simply having a piece of plastic cut and stuck over the top.
What Is A Window Board?
A window board is the internal sill fitted along the bottom of a window opening. It creates the finished horizontal surface between the window frame and the room.
Although people often call them window sills, technically the external sill and internal window board are different parts of the installation.
Internal window boards are available in different materials, but modern uPVC window boards are a popular choice because they provide a clean appearance, are easy to maintain and work particularly well alongside white uPVC window frames.
Standard Window Boards
Clean replacement boards for conventional window openings, professionally measured and cut to suit the existing frame.
Bay Window Boards
Bay windows require careful cutting and accurate corner joints so the board follows the shape of the window neatly.
uPVC Window Sill Finishing
Durable white uPVC provides a clean, low-maintenance finish that complements modern double glazing.

Why Replace An Existing Window Board?
Window boards can last for many years, but they're also exposed to everyday wear and tear.
Paintwork can deteriorate, timber boards can become marked or damaged, and older installations don't always have the neat finish customers expect from modern glazing.
Replacement can be particularly worthwhile when you're improving the rest of the window area but the existing sill is letting down the finished appearance.
- Cleaner, brighter internal finish
- Low-maintenance uPVC surface
- Neater joins around bay windows
- Complements existing white uPVC frames
- Can transform the appearance without replacing the window
uPVC Window Board Replacement In Gravesend
We recently completed this window board replacement in Gravesend for a customer with a large bay window.
The windows themselves were still perfectly serviceable, but the existing internal sill area wasn't giving the room the clean finish the customer wanted.
With a bay window like this, the challenge isn't simply fitting one straight length of window board. Each section needs to follow the angles of the bay accurately, with the joins positioned and finished carefully so that the completed sill looks like one continuous installation.

“The windows didn't need replacing at all. This was purely about improving the internal finish. With a bay window the measurements and corner joints have to be right, otherwise your eye is immediately drawn to the joins. Once the new boards were fitted, the whole window area looked much cleaner.”

Getting Bay Window Board Corners Right
Bay windows are a great example of why experience matters with window board replacement.
Each section needs to be measured and cut carefully so the boards meet neatly where the window changes direction.
If those cuts are even slightly out, the resulting gaps or uneven joints can spoil the appearance of the entire window area.
On this Gravesend project, the new white uPVC boards were fitted around the full bay, with the corner joints aligned neatly to create a clean continuous finish.
This sort of finishing work is something we can carry out alongside window and double glazing repairs or as a standalone service when the windows themselves don't need replacing.
How We Replace Internal Window Boards
Every window opening is slightly different, so I measure and prepare each job rather than relying on standard assumptions.
Inspect
I inspect the existing window board, frame and surrounding finish to understand exactly what needs replacing.
Measure
The window opening, projection and any bay angles are carefully measured before the replacement board is cut.
Cut & Fit
New uPVC sections are accurately cut and fitted around the existing window frame.
Finish
Joints and edges are carefully finished to create a neat, professional result.
Why Window Board Replacement Is More Than Cosmetic
It can be tempting to think of a window board as simply a piece of trim, but the finish around a window has to work properly with the existing frame, plasterwork and surrounding surfaces.
Poor measurements can leave unsightly gaps, while forcing boards into place can damage adjoining finishes.
The work becomes even more detailed around bay windows, where several sections may need to meet at different angles.
With my background in window installation and glazing repairs, I can assess the complete window area first and make sure the replacement board is the right solution rather than covering over another problem.
Are Your Window Sills Looking Tired Or Damaged?
You may not need new windows. A professional uPVC window board replacement can give the whole window area a clean, modern finish at a fraction of the disruption of a full replacement.

What is the difference between a window board and a window sill?
The term window sill is commonly used for both, but a window board generally refers to the finished internal horizontal surface beneath the window. The external sill is the weather-facing part outside the property.
Can you replace a window board without replacing the window?
Yes, in many cases. If the existing window is in good condition, the internal window board can often be replaced as a standalone job.
Can you replace window boards around a bay window?
Yes. Bay windows require careful measuring and cutting because the window board follows several angles. The Gravesend project shown on this page is a good example.
Are uPVC window boards easy to maintain?
uPVC window boards are a popular low-maintenance choice. Their smooth surface is easy to clean and works particularly well with modern white uPVC window frames.
Do you cover Gravesend as well as Medway?
Yes. TS Glazing is based in Medway but also carries out selected window installation and repair work in surrounding Kent areas, including Gravesend.
Can you tell me if I need a new window or just a new window board?
Yes. One of the benefits of using an experienced glazier is that I can inspect the existing window as well as the internal finish. If the window itself doesn't need replacing, I'll tell you.
